Powering our economy

Natural gas provides energy for factories and businesses, creating well-paid jobs, exports and royalties for the Government.

So many of our factories and industries rely on natural gas to create products like food and building materials. Steel, dairy, meat and paper producers are just a few examples.

These industries create jobs and exports, and in many cases there are no realistic alternative energy sources (yet).

Producing natural gas and petroleum here in New Zealand also earns the Government around $420 million per year in royalties and taxes, which helps pay for schools and hospitals. Without this revenue our taxes would have to be higher to pay for these services.
